About Me

Little introduction

Before I start to write my blogs about my passion, I want to talk a little bit about myself and who I am.

I am 27 years old and I live in Belgium but my heritage is Afro American and Belgian. To say it easier my dad is American and my mom is Belgian. I grew up in Belgium together with my mom and 2 sisters. My father, who was a basketball player went back to USA when I was 6 years old. From my early age I was always drawn to fashion and clothing. I was always combining outfits in my room and read fashion magazines. I knew very fast that I wanted to make an career within fashion.

I choose to study Marketing because I realized that I am more a sales person than a designer. Although I could definitely create clothing, I was drawn to the marketing aspects and branding. It interest me to find out what people need and how to create the an urge from consumers. I started my fashion career as many from the bottom up. My first job was in a clothing shop Zara and worked my up into sales assistant in the Louis Vuitton store. I also worked for Hugo Boss and was a store manager for a Diamond shop. After a lot of Retail experience, I wanted to grow within the sales world and now work for a fashion agency. There we sell Scandinavian brands for the Benelux market and gives me an insight on how brands present and establish their collections in different markets.

With this blog I want to show you my insights about the fashion industry but most importantly inspire you. for those who is also seeking their way into the fashion world, I really hope this can be beneficial to you and guide you to your own fashion ambitions.

Sell it to me!

The pitch.

A pitch is a quick way to sell your product or yourself to a person of interest. It inspires me because it is has to be clear, short and attract attention. For the consumer it is also good way to avoid long conversations about the product. Consumers these days are easy distracted so if you have a 10 minute long speech about your product they will get bored and you will lose them. The pitch should open the door to more interest and make the client ask more questions. When you have their attention then it is the perfect time for a sales attempt without them feeling that you are only want to make them buy your product. Making the right pitch is not easy, therefore you need to know your target group and their needs very well. Marketeers who figured out the right pitch are very inspiring to me.

What’s your brand?

The lover archetype

I chose this archetype because it relates to me the most. I am a very emotional person and long term relationships are very important to me. I am also very passionate in the things I do and love, I believe that you have to give it your all and your full heart to create something or to reach a goal.

“The lover wants to experience pleasure in their work, relationships and fears to be unloved and unwanted”

This anecdote suits me the best because this is how I experience my relationships with the people I care and love. I feel the most comfortable and happy with the people I love and always want to have the greatest time and memories. My biggest fear is to be unwanted or unloved by the people I care and that could make me depressed and unhappy.

Cote d’or

First of all I love chocolate! That is why I chose this brand for the archetype the lover. The brand is also very well known and has the statement to be the love of your life. It is our guilty pleasure that we need when we feel low and need some comfort.

The brands works on the emotion of the people, you can see that in the advertising and how the brand communicates to the target group. They let you feel like you are the only one for them and be there for you when you some need love.

What is Marketing not?

When we hear marketing, people automatically think off advertising. This is an misconception that people often have about marketing because it is more than that. Advertising is only a small part of marketing, it is a tool to create brand awareness which leads to an increase of sales. Which gets me to my other point. Marketing is also not only selling your product, although it is a major aspect of marketing, there is a difference between a marketeer and a sales person. A marketeer will always think in function of the brand and want consumers to buy the products for the brand. As a sales person will think in function of the products and let consumers buy the products for the qualities instead of the brand. Furthermore marketing carries out everything from brand strategy, communication strategy, market strategy and target group. There are so many ways that you can corporate marketing, which makes it an interesting job.
